“The U.S. House of Representatives has voted in support of a slew of new protections for whales and marine mammals. These protections include measures to reduce vessel collisions with large whales and new programs aimed at reducing chronic underwater noise from vessels. If enacted, they would amount to the most substantial new legislative measures for marine mammals in years.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Congresswoman Kim Schrier's, M.D. (WA-08) amendments to assist Veterans and military spouses, and to improve pandemic preparedness passed the House in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2022. The NDAA is legislation passed annually to maintain military readiness, enhance capabilities, and prioritize technological security. It is expected to pass the Senate.

ISSAQUAH, WA – Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) announced today that several of her priorities have been included in the Energy and Commerce Committee's portion of the Build Back Better Act. The Energy and Commerce Committee held a meeting over the last three days to pass its section of the bill which will lower health care costs, strengthen vaccine confidence, expand Medicare vision coverage, combat climate change, improve access to high-speed internet, and bolster clean energy infrastructure.

"Schrier said in spring that test prices were high because “big companies are buying up all the supplies.” Also, “their profit is far higher making 1,000 $30 tests than 30,000 $1 tests” — in other words, they can make the same amount of money for many fewer tests.
