WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Representatives Kim Schrier, M.D. (D-WA) and Barry Moore (R-AL) introduced the Forest Data Modernization Act, a bipartisan bill that would modernize data collection efforts of the USFS Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program. This legislation will meet the needs of forestry stakeholders who have identified a need to modernize the FIA program to meet the rapidly growing market demand for standardized, high-quality data to support sustainable forest management decisions.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representatives Kim Schrier, M.D. (D-WA) and Bill Johnson (R-OH) introduced the bipartisan bill, H.R. 3613 - Doctors at the Ready Act to prevent and address staffing shortages during disaster and pandemic responses. This legislation will allow the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) to continue to directly hire medical and health workers when disaster strikes.

WASHINGTON, DC – Recently, U.S. Representatives Kim Schrier, M.D. (D-WA) and Dan Newhouse (R-WA) introduced bipartisan legislation (ENABLE Conservation Act of 2023 - Eliminating Needless Administrative Barriers Lessening Efficiency for Conservation Act) to support farmers who voluntarily participate in conservation programs. Of particular interest to Washington state is the Conservation Reserve Program’s (CRP) State Acres for Wildlife Enhancement (SAFE) initiative.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the United States House of Representatives passed Congresswoman Kim Schrier’s, M.D. (WA-08) bipartisan bill aimed at improving emergency services in rural communities. The Advanced, Local Emergency Response Telecommunications (ALERT) Parity Act, which was introduced with Congressman Bill Johnson (OH-06), passed the House by a roll call vote of 422-1.

WASHINGTON, DC –U.S. Representatives Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) and Bill Johnson (OH-06) recently introduced the bipartisan Advanced, Local Emergency Response Telecommunications (ALERT) Parity Act. This legislation will help improve access to emergency services for remote and underserved areas, as well as regions experiencing outages caused by natural disasters. Today it passed out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee unanimously and is headed to the House floor.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) announced that the 8th District will be receiving almost $11.5 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to prevent and mitigate wildfires, including $10 million for the Kittitas County Conservation District, the largest grant in the country. The funding is from Community Wildfire Defense Grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

ISSAQUAH, WA – Today Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) held a Farm Bill listening session in Pierce County and announced that she will host additional listening sessions to hear constituent concerns regarding this year’s Farm Bill. These listening sessions will take place throughout the district in the upcoming months.
