WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) today sent a letter to the Office of Inspectors General for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Health and Human Services (HHS) demanding answers about the handling of separated children at the border. Two recent troubling reports about children being held in vans overnight, and the confiscation of life-saving medicine have compelled Rep. Schrier, a pediatrician, to request an investigation by the Inspectors General.

The bill was passed as part of a larger package to strengthen Americans' retirement security called the SECURE Act (H.R. 1994). The bill now moves to the Senate.

"I am thrilled that my bill, Stronger CAPTA, has passed the House unanimously. Stronger CAPTA is a reauthorization of the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA) that will enhance already existing federal supports for child abuse and neglect.

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08), Congresswoman Katherine Clark (D-MA), and Congressman Don Young (R-AK) have introduced the bipartisan Child Care Access Means Parents In School Reauthorization (CCAMPIS) Act, a bill that would provide $200 million annually in grant funding to support child care for student parents on college campuses.

The Stronger Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (Stronger CAPTA) will combat the rising rates of child maltreatment happening as the opioid crisis has devastated families and communities across the country.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) introduced an amendment this week, which was adopted today with bipartisan support and included in H.R. 9, the Climate Action Now Act. The amendment supports farmers and ranchers who are employing agricultural practices that help the United States meet the goals and ambitions of the Paris Agreement. The Climate Action Now Act passed the House of Representatives today.
