Rep. Schrier Releases Video Demonstrating How Easy Rapid At-Home COVID-19 Tests Are to Use

February 5, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) today released a video to show how easy rapid, at-home COVID-19 tests are to use and what they could mean for reopening the economy and getting kids back into school.

"I figured I would release a video to show people how to use these types of tests and just how easy it is. For months now, I have been talking about what these tests could do to get us out of this pandemic faster," said Rep. Schrier. "If families could use these a few times a week, they could better understand if they are contagious and stay home from work or school until they are no longer contagious. It has been heartening to see several at-home tests approved by the FDA in recent weeks. But at $25-30 per test, they are still far too expensive for every American to use several times a week. We've got to drive that cost down and get these out into the community now."

Earlier this week, Rep. Schrier participated in a Health hearing and pushed for increased production of supplies for inexpensive, rapid at-home tests. Last month Rep. Schrier led the New Democrat Coalition in requesting President Joe Biden to use the Defense Production Act to invest in supplies and technology needed for inexpensive, rapid tests. And late last year, Rep. Schrier held a New Democrat Coalition briefing with Dr. Michael Mina, of the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health on these rapid tests and how they are a useful tool to find asymptomatic spread before the virus can spread to others.
