Rep. Kim Schrier: “This is really groundbreaking for all of the people in this country who depend on insulin. We can talk about Type 1 diabetics who will die without insulin. We can talk about Type 2 diabetics who will not be able to manage their blood sugars and get extremely sick without insulin.
WASHINGTON, DC — Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) released the following statement this morning after reports of a leaked draft opinion by the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade:
“8th District Representative Dr. Kim Schrier is calling the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion that could lead to the overturning of Roe v Wade a massive step backward, saying the news has left her 'devastated and angry.'
In a statement released shortly after the leak was reported, Schrier said that women in more than half of the states in the U.S. would lose the freedom to make their most important healthcare decision and will be blocked from getting the safe healthcare they need.”

"Schrier said it has been 37 years since her pediatrician told her she had Type 1 diabetes.
'At that time, insulin was cheap,' Schrier said. 'But the cost of insulin has skyrocketed. And most of us need more than one bottle per month. When people can’t afford insulin, they try to make that bottle last as long as it possibly can. So they ration their insulin, taking just enough to stay alive, but not enough to keep them healthy. And that is sometimes deadly.'"
