WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Representative Kim Schrier introduced a bipartisan, bicameral bill to fund crucial infrastructure improvements for dams in Washington state and across the nation. This legislation, the National Dam Safety Reauthorization Act, would reauthorize the National Dam Safety Program (NDSP) through FY 2028. Congresswoman Schrier is joined in co-leading this legislation with Representatives Chuck Edwards (R-NC-11), Annie Kuster (D-NH-2), and Brandon Williams (R-NY-22).

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) celebrates a huge win for fruit growers in Washington’s 8th district. The Office of the United States Trade Representative announced they have reached an agreement with India to lift Section 232 tariffs on US apple exports to India. The Indian government imposed a 20% tax increase on U.S. apples after the U.S. imposed tariffs on India for steel and aluminum in 2018 under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act.

NCW — The Indian government has agreed to remove a retaliatory tariff that Washington farmers say resulted in drastically reduced apple exports to the country for the past four years.

The news came Thursday afternoon during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Washington, D.C., and comes after frequent grumbles from Washington’s agricultural community and pleas from the state’s congressional delegation.
