The U.S. Department of Transportation announced the recipients of this year's Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grants. This is an incredibly competitive program, and not only did Wenatchee win, but it won big – $92.4 million. That's the largest INFRA grant awarded anywhere in the country this year. Maybe it's because the city has applied for this funding for four years now, but this announcement felt especially momentous.
WENATCHEE - Wenatchee's Apple Capital Loop Project has been awarded a $92.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
The Apple Capital Loop project is a network of projects completing an 11-mile loop that serves as the backbone for highway, transit and active modes of transportation supported by a number of regional partners including the city of Wenatchee, Chelan and Douglas counties, WSDOT, Chelan-Douglas Regional Port Authority, LINK Transit and the Chelan-Douglas Transportation Council.
As the summer heat adds to the West's significant drought, 8th District Representative Kim Schrier continues to point to the National Prescribed Fire Act as a possible solution to the massive fires in recent years.
Schrier said her bill would require the Forest Service and Department of the Interior to increase their controlled burn acreage by providing them both with $300 million annually for the work.
The newly proposed federal MAPLand Act would provide resources to digitize map records as part of an effort to improve access to public lands.
Representatives Blake Moore (R-UT), Ross Fulcher (R-ID), Joe Neguse (D-CO) and Kim Schrier (D-WA) recently introduced the Modernizing Access to our Public Land Act to digitize federal land mapping records.
"There are people that desperately want to know where they can go and enjoy these public lands," Congressman Blake Moore said.
