Water and Wastewater Infrastructure, Bonney Lake

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Amount Requested: $3,000,000

The community water system in the Cedar View neighborhood is one of the oldest in Bonney Lake, originally installed in the 1960s with substandard materials. It has been identified to be past its useful life and is rapidly deteriorating, leading to an increasing number of leaks and repairs. In addition to rising maintenance costs, leaching of wastewater is an increasing risk to public health. This project would update the water system, replacing more than 10,800 feet of substandard water main and to prevent having to restore roads twice, this project will also install 15,000 feet of new sewer main to connect the community to safe wastewater disposal from individual septic systems. Increasing water supply capacity by decreasing leaks and ensuring access to safe, reliable water saves city resources by reducing repairs and contributes to the long-term community livability and property values.

Federal Nexus: The project has a federal nexus because the funding provided is for purposes authorized by Section 219(f)(398) of the Water Resources Development Act of 1992.
