Thousands of 8th District Jobs Saved Through Payroll Protection Program Loans

July 9, 2020

ISSAQUAH, WA – Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) today announced that thousands of 8th district small businesses utilized the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) to keep employees on the payroll. After repeated calls for transparency from Rep. Schrier, the data was released this week by the Small Business Administration.

"When this pandemic began, we knew Congress needed to act quickly to help families weather the economic fallout from the pandemic," said Rep. Schrier. "While there have been several issues with the implementation of this program, I am relieved that thousands of workers have been able to stay on payroll, making it easier for them to get back to work, and for small businesses to reopen."

In the 8th district, 11,882 small businesses benefitted from PPP loans, helping to retain more than 108,592 district jobs.

Last week the House passed an extension for the PPP application period. Businesses now have until August 8th to apply for the program, 60% of which needs to be used for payroll expenses in order for the loan to be forgiven. Small businesses with questions can contact Rep. Schrier's office at 425-657-1001.
