Rep. Schrier's Statements on Situation in Afghanistan
Monday, August 16, 2021
"I am continuing to monitor the heartbreaking and alarming situation unfolding in Afghanistan. We must focus on taking every possible measure to evacuate our Afghan partners who fought alongside us for 20 years.
The 8th district is home to thousands of Veterans, including many who have served in Afghanistan over the last 20 years. I am so grateful for their service and efforts to grow a democracy against the odds. Women and girls experienced freedoms for the first time, and it is devastating to see how quickly those gains have been lost. I am now very concerned for the Afghan people, especially those women and girls. My team and I are here to assist Veterans get the help they need and to assist with the Special Immigrant Visas (SIVs) process to get our allies to safety. Constituents who require assistance related to Afghanistan can call my office at 425-657-1001."

"We got word this weekend of one family of WA-08 constituent American citizens being evacuated after several days of attempting to leave Afghanistan. My office continues to work with dozens more families.
Some constituents themselves still in Afghanistan, and some concerned about family members and former military partners. We will continue working around the clock to try to help all our constituents and allies."
