Rep. Schrier’s Statement on State of the Union Address Tonight

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) released the following statement ahead of attending tonight’s State of the Union address by President Joe Biden:
“It is an honor to attend tonight’s State of the Union address. This address comes at a time of global uncertainty with many families still struggling to make ends meet, purchase goods like groceries and gas, and afford child care. I am hoping to hear President Biden address our national security as well as issues like bringing down the cost of prescription drugs, lowering costs for American families, creating jobs, protecting a woman's right to make her own health care decisions, and helping our Veterans.
To that end, I am thrilled to be joined by my guest for the State of the Union, local Veteran Jose Medina, who has been our office's Wounded Warrior fellow for the last two years. In our office Mr. Medina helped Veterans secure their VA benefits, brought attention to needed improvements at the Wenatchee VA Clinic, and implemented our Vietnam Veteran Commemoration program.
One of the most important bills I voted for last Congress was the Honoring Our PACT Act to ensure post-9/11 Veterans can access care for health issues stemming from toxic burn pit exposure. With Mr. Medina as my guest, I am hoping to bring attention to this important legislation as the VA begins its roll out. I also hope President Biden will talk about the implementation tonight, in addition to the topics I’ve already mentioned.
I’m proud of the work I have accomplished for this district working with this President and with both parties. We are in a much better place with a rebounding economy, untangling supply chain, and investments in infrastructure and clean energy jobs. But there is more work to do to make sure every American feels this success.”
