Rep. Schrier Votes in Support of H.R. 8

February 27, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08), a member of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 8:

"After too many years of ‘thoughts and prayers', we are finally getting something done to fix the gun violence epidemic in our country. This bipartisan commonsense bill would require a background check for every gun sale, with some reasonable exceptions. This is something that over 90% of Americans support. Closing the gaps in our background check system is an important step to keep guns from falling into the wrong hands.

This is the first vote on gun violence prevention in more than a decade and I was proud to vote for H.R 8. Now, there is much more work to be done. As a doctor, I look forward to proposing legislation that takes a health perspective to keep our children and families safe from gun violence."
