Rep. Schrier Statement on House Passage of Bill to Reverse USPS Changes

August 22, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) released the following statement after the House passed the "Delivering for America Act," which will reverse the recent changes at the United States Postal Service that has slowed down service:

"I have heard from hundreds of my constituents who say they have noticed markedly slower USPS service in the last few months, including seniors and Veterans who have had their medications delayed, businesses who have lost clients because of delayed product, and families who have had to pay late fees for bill because the bill arrived past the due date. The bill the House passed today reverses these recent attempts to sabotage our Postal Service and provides additional funds to the USPS to shore up systems to make sure they can handle the vote-by-mail demand of the 2020 election and make sure every ballot mailed is counted.

Earlier this week, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said he wouldn't make further changes before the election. This isn't good enough. We need workers to be able to make their routes in rural places and sorting machines turned back on so mail isn't delayed further. I will keep pushing for better Postal Service because my constituents rely on the USPS for medications and to pay their bills."
