Rep. Schrier Secures Appropriations Funding to Support Farmers, Children, Firefighters

July 16, 2020

ISSAQUAH, WA – Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) announced today that several of her top priorities to help local farmers, children, and firefighters have been included in the annual Appropriations funding bill. The House will be voting on a series of Appropriations bills in the next few weeks.

"The health and well-being of my constituents will always be a top priority for me and that has been reflected in my appropriations requests," said Rep. Schrier. "We are facing an unprecedented health crisis, but we cannot let other issues fall to the wayside. Food still needs to be harvested safely by agricultural workers, firefighters need equipment to safely fight wildfires, and children need to be kept safe from harmful toxins and abuse. This work has to continue as we fight this pandemic."

The issues Rep. Schrier has focused on include:

  • Clean Air – Preventing the Trump Administration from rolling back clean air rules, already in place at businesses, that protect children and pregnant women
  • Ensuring Worker and Farmer Viability – increased funding for more efficient and effective delivery of H2A program
  • Teaching During COVID – assist and support teachers and students as they navigate learning from home
  • Firefighters – increased funding to ensure fire departments have access to the equipment they need to keep our communities safe from wildfires
  • Child Welfare during COVID and the Opioid Epidemic – increased funding for state agencies and community organizations to combat child abuse, particularly in light of increasing incidence of child abuse linked to the opioid epidemic and pandemic with children home from school
