Rep. Schrier Releases Report on 8th District Health Care Savings
ISSAQUAH, WA – Today, U.S. Representative Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) released a report highlighting health care savings secured for the residents of Washington's 8th Congressional District from the American Rescue Plan.
The American Rescue Plan has lowered health care costs for millions of Americans who purchase private insurance by reducing premium contributions and expanding access to premium tax credits. The Special Enrollment Period to access these benefits ends August 15th.
"With the passage of the American Rescue Plan, thousands more residents in the 8th District have access to quality, affordable health care," said Rep. Schrier. "This new report demonstrates the savings available to Washingtonians if they take advantage of the increased and expanded tax credits. This is critical relief for families hurting due to the COVID-19 crisis and charts our path out of the pandemic."
More findings from today's new report include:
- There are an estimated 30,000 people in the 8th district who could save an average of $3,700 annually on health insurance premiums.
- Others who were previously ineligible to receive tax credits may now qualify under the American Rescue Plan. For example, a family of four with two adults age 50, two children, and a household income of $106,000 could see their premiums cut by 51%, generating $9,312 in annual savings.
- An estimated 23,000 uninsured individuals in the 8th district are eligible for tax credits, including 17,000 who can now enroll in a plan for less than $10 a month.
Uninsured individuals or those who purchase their health insurance through the state-based marketplace may be eligible for the American Rescue Plan's enhanced tax credits.
