Rep. Schrier Reflects on First 100 Days in Office
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, April 12th, marks U. S. Representative Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08)'s 100th day in office after being sworn in on January 3, 2019. She serves on the Education and Labor Committee, and the Committee on Agriculture.
"Wow, I cannot believe that it has already been 100 days. At times it has felt like I've been here for a few years, and other times only a few days," said Rep. Schrier. "We've already accomplished a lot and I'm proud of the work we've done. But there is still much more work to do to bring down the cost of health care and prescription drugs, and make sure that every family has an opportunity to succeed in our great country."
Among her accomplishments in the first 100 days, Rep. Schrier's bipartisan bill with Rep. Dan Newhouse, the Yakima River Basin Water Enhancement Project Phase III Act, passed both the House and the Senate, and President Trump signed it into law. Rep. Schrier has also introduced a bipartisan bill that will reduce the price of insulin, and a bipartisan, bicameral bill to prevent infant abuse. And her amendment to increase the number of professionals trained to help children exposed to violence passed the House as part in the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act earlier in April.
Rep. Schrier now has three offices open to better serve the constituents of the 8th District: one in Issaquah, one in Wenatchee, and one in Washington, D.C. The district offices have opened 66 cases and held over 40 outreach meetings. In D.C., the office has responded to over 16,000 letters and 3,000 calls from constituents. And completed 63 tours. So far, Rep. Schrier has held over 240 meetings in D.C. and in the district offices.
Rep. Schrier held her first Town Hall in Wenatchee in February and will be holding her next Town Hall in Auburn on Wednesday, April 17th.
Added Rep. Schrier, "I have loved getting to meet constituents, especially children, around the district. I look forward to more visits to schools, businesses, and farms throughout the district and getting to better understand and meet the needs of our community over the next year and a half."
Rep. Schrier has traveled over 17,000 miles since being sworn in, many of those flying back to the district every weekend to meet with constituents and attend local events. 1,100 of those miles have been spent driving to 5 counties in the 8th District.
