Rep. Schrier Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Protect Consumers
ISSAQUAH, WA – Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) has introduced a bipartisan bill that will protect consumers and ensure that companies are providing correct and accurate data to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
“In a global economy, we want to make sure that Americans are kept safe from bad actors who would fabricate information in order to get FDA approval,” said Rep. Schrier. “This is a common-sense bill that streamlines processes to deter manufacturers who might provide false data or records and crack down on those who do. We want to make sure that the FDA has all of the tools they need to protect the American people.”
The Data Transparency and Drug Safety Act of 2022 will allow the FDA to levy financial penalties if they find alteration, mutilation, falsification, fabrication, destruction, or removal of records or information required for drug manufacturing.
Floor action is expected on this legislation as soon as next week.
