Rep. Schrier to Hold Farm Bill Listening Sessions Throughout the 8th District

March 20, 2023

ISSAQUAH, WA – Today Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) held a Farm Bill listening session in Pierce County and announced that she will host additional listening sessions to hear constituent concerns regarding this year’s Farm Bill. These listening sessions will take place throughout the district in the upcoming months.

“Hearing from my constituents helps me better understand the needs of our agriculture community,” said Rep. Schrier. “The Farm Bill will have massive implications for the 8th District and the entire country for years to come. I will work hard to ensure that Washington state’s needs and priorities are reflected in the final bill.”

The Farm Bill is a comprehensive omnibus law that reauthorizes key Department of Agriculture programs and provisions for the next five years. This includes, but is not limited to, nutrition assistance programs like SNAP, agriculture subsidies, forest management, and grants like the Specialty Crop Research Initiative. In short, the final details of this year’s Farm Bill will have a significant impact on farmers, grocery prices, wildfire mitigation efforts, and the overall agriculture industry.

Congresswoman Schrier, who was recently named the Chair of the New Democrat Coalition’s Farm Bill Task Force, will play a leading role in shaping this legislation. As the Chair of this task force, Representative Schrier will guide a group of nearly 100 members of Congress towards crafting a bill that supports Washington farmers and families.

Congresswoman Schrier will host her next listening sessions in Chelan County the week of April 3rd and in North King County/Snohomish County the week of May 1st.
