Rep. Schrier Elected as Vice Ranking Member on Powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee
WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) today announced that she was elected by her Committee colleagues to be the Vice Ranking Member on the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee. This will be Rep. Schrier’s 2nd term on the Committee. The Committee on Energy and Commerce is the oldest continuous standing committee in the U.S. House of Representatives and has the broadest jurisdiction of any authorizing committee in the House. It legislates on many issues including health care, climate change, energy policy, environmental protections, medical research, and telecommunications.
“I am honored to be named Vice Ranking Member of this esteemed Committee and am excited to work on this important Committee again this Congress,” said Rep. Schrier. “This Committee’s jurisdiction touches on virtually every issue that matters most to my constituents—like rural health care, lowering the cost of prescription drugs, closing the digital divide, progressing toward a carbon neutral future, and holding corporations accountable for price gouging. I look forward to working with Ranking Member Frank Pallone to advance the issues that affect the 8th District and Washington state.”
“I’m thrilled Dr. Schrier will serve as the Vice Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Committee,” Energy and Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone said. “She is an outstanding leader with a deep command of the issues and is respected by members on both sides of the aisle. I look forward to working alongside Dr. Schrier to lower costs for American families, expand access to health care, combat the climate crisis, and protect consumers.”
Rep. Schrier will again serve on the Health and Energy subcommittees of the Energy and Commerce Committee.
