Rep. Schrier Announces Local Veteran Will Be Her Guest to State of the Union Next Week
WASHINGTON, DC – Today Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) announced that local Veteran Jose Medina will be her guest for the 2023 State of the Union Address on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. Mr. Medina served for two years as the Wounded Warrior Fellow in Rep. Schrier’s office. The Wounded Warrior Program, also known as the Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program, provides employment opportunities for recently discharged Veterans within the House of Representatives.
In this role, Mr. Medina helped Veterans secure their VA benefits, brought attention to needed improvements at the WenatcheeVA Clinic, and implemented the Congresswoman’s Vietnam Veteran Commemoration program. Prior to his time in Rep. Schrier’s office, Mr. Medina served in the U.S. Army as a 68W, Healthcare Specialist.
“I’m thrilled to have Jose join me as my State of the Union guest this year,” said Rep. Schrier. “I’ve greatly appreciated his dedication to so many Veterans in our district and am grateful for his service to our country. One of the most important pieces of legislation that I voted for last Congress was the Honoring Our Pact Act to ensure post-9/11 Veterans can access care for health issues stemming from toxic burn pit exposure. I want to bring attention to this important legislation as the VA begins its implementation.”
"Many of us Veterans continue to serve after our military service. It is part of who we are. I am honored to be Congresswoman Schrier's State of the Union guest this year," added Mr. Medina.
Rep. Schrier will be available for interviews before or after the State of the Union on Tuesday, February 7th in Washington, D.C. To set up an interview, please contact Libby Carlson at elizabeth.carlson@mail.house.gov.
