Rep. Schrier Announces $19 Million Included in House Infrastructure Bill for 8th District Priorities

June 10, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the House Transportation and Infrastructure (T&I) Committee passed the INVEST in America Act that includes three of Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08)'s surface transportation funding priorities. The Committee approved $19,046,200 in the INVEST in America Act for transportation projects throughout Washington's 8th Congressional District. The bill is expected to receive a vote on the House floor later this month.

"While we still have a lot of work ahead of us to meet the infrastructure needs of the 8th district, I'm very proud to have three local projects included in the INVEST in America Act," said Rep. Schrier. "Local leaders know their communities' needs best. That's why I worked with mayors, county commissioners, and community members across our district to identify priorities and advocate for federal investment."

The following WA-08 surface transportation projects were included in the INVEST in America Act:

  • $8.6 million for the Columbia River Pedestrian Bridge Extension & Apple Capital Loop Trail in Wenatchee
  • $4.5 for the Lea Hill Corridor 112th Ave SE & 105th Pl SE Intersection Improvements in Auburn
  • $6 million for the HWY 162 Pedestrian Bridge in Orting

The INVEST in America Act funds surface transportation programs, improves safety, and invests in climate resilient infrastructure. The INVEST in America Act offers a new approach to federal transportation policy by emphasizing fixing our existing roads and bridges as well as investing in passenger rail, public transit, cycling and walking infrastructure, and zero-emission options to create safer travel and more connected communities.

Strong Buy America provisions and labor protections ensure that the work will be fueled by American workers and manufacturing, creating jobs with targeted investments in rural and underserved communities.

The INVEST in America Act will need to receive House and Senate passage to become law. The Senate and President Biden are working on similar infrastructure proposals.
