January 17, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Kim Schrier (WA-08) today announced that she has been selected to serve on the Education and Labor, and Agriculture Committees. The Education and Labor Committee works on issues specific to schools, children, and working families.

"I am very happy to be joining the Education and Labor, and Agriculture Committees," said Congresswoman Schrier. "Being a member of the Education and Labor Committee will allow me to continue to work on issues that affect children and working families like early childhood education and affordable post-secondary education options. And as the lone female physician in Congress, my unique perspective will be able to guide the conversation to ensure that our children stay healthy and safe."

In addition, Congresswoman Schrier will be the only member from the Northwest serving on the Committee on Agriculture. The House Committee on Agriculture has jurisdiction on farm and orchard issues, forestry, and nutrition programs.

Congresswoman Schrier continued, "Finally our region will have someone to speak up for our fruit, hay, and wheat farmers. I will also be able to work on policy related to food programs and making sure that our kids get the nutrition they need to stay healthy.

And of course, I will always be involved in any conversation or decision related to healthcare, making it more affordable and bringing down the cost of prescription drugs."
