Congresswoman Schrier Introduces Legislation to Suspend Gas Tax and Lower Costs for Washingtonians
WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, Congresswoman Kim Schrier, M.D. (WA-08) introduced the Gas Prices Relief Act, another step in lowering costs for Eighth District constituents. This bill would continue to lower high gas costs for Washington families by temporarily suspending the 18.4 cent federal gas tax until January 1, 2025. Congresswoman Schrier is joined in introducing this legislation by Representative Josh Harder (CA-09).
“At a time when people in the Eighth District and across the country are feeling the pinch at the gas pump, Congress needs to be doing all it can to bring down costs for American families. I won’t sit idly by while gas and oil companies are making record profits,” said Congresswoman Schrier. “I’ve grilled and pressured those gas and oil executives to drop prices, but until they do, a gas tax holiday is one way to get relief to American families right away.”
“Our families are paying some of the highest gas prices in the country, and it's incredibly frustrating to see the government make it worse. Today we said enough. Our bill will suspend the gas tax and let hard working families keep more money in their pockets,” said Congressman Harder.
