Feds praise Loop project during Buttigieg visit

October 6, 2022

"Alongside U.S. Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell and U.S. Rep. Kim Schrier, Buttigieg met with local mayors and other officials for a press event in smoky Walla Walla Point Park. Wenatchee won a $92.4 grant under the U.S. Department of Transportation's Infrastructure For Rebuilding America grant program, or INFRA, to help finance the multimodal Apple Capital Loop project.

Schrier, who helped champion the Wenatchee application for the INFRA grant, said she gifted Buttigieg a basket of Cosmic Crisp apples when they first met. 'When we worked hard to make our case for why this project should be one of the 20 in the country that would get funded, I reminded him that this is where Cosmic Crisp apples come from, and if he wanted them in Washington, D.C., this would be a critical project.'"
