The funding would support the City of Ellensburg’s Solar Energy Park, a state-of-the-art advanced metering project to increase grid resilience and support working families through grid modernization by improving communication between the utility and consumers, providing capacity for renewable energy deployment, opt-in prepayment services, energy efficiency, smart EV charging, and demand response (DR) programs.

Infrastructure upgrades will allow the City of Ellensburg to deliver renewable energy and energy efficiency to 8,370 residents living at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level. In 2019, more than 56% of households were cost-burdened—spending more than 30% of their income on rent—making energy cost a critical factor in community resiliency.
