CPF Snoqualmie Valley Trail Channel Widening and Wetland Creation/Enhancement Project

City of North Bend
920 SE Cedar Falls Way
North Bend, WA 98045

Amount Requested: $225,000.00

The City of North Bend would provide matching funds and use federal funds to widen and realign approximately 1,000 feet of swale from about 8 feet in width to 12 feet in width. This drainage swale is the outlet for almost all the stormwater infrastructure north of North Bend Way which is a drainage area of approximately 100 acres. Just before reaching the South Fork of the Snoqualmie River the drainage swale goes through a 0.75-acre wetland complex that the City would also enhance.  Currently, the wetland site is overgrown by blackberry and Bohemian knotweed and lacks shade, and during storm events the channel backs up as the river level rises and is unable to accept the water.

The health of the Snoqualmie River directly impacts the vitality and economic health of all cities located in the Snoqualmie Valley. A healthier river promotes healthier cities. Improving storm water infrastructure while also restoring wetlands is consistent with regional conservation plans, improves water quality and protects downstream watershed.
