CPF Renewable Natural Gas Conversion and Methane Gas Recovery at the Wastewater Treatment Facility

City of Ellensburg
2415 Canyon Rd.
Ellensburg, WA 98926

Amount Requested: $840,000.00

This funding would be used by the City for the necessary infrastructure upgrades to efficiently take excess biogas (methane) through a scrubbing process and create a renewable resource, Renewable Natural Gas (RNG). The City has a unique opportunity to produce valuable RNG, deliver it into the City-owned natural gas system, and offset the use of fossil gas. With this upgrade, the City could market this renewable energy resource and make it available to their customers or others on the West Coast looking to replace higher carbon content natural gas or traditional vehicle fuels.

By upgrading the city owned and operated wastewater treatment facility to capture methane biproduct instead of flaring excess biogas, this investment in clean energy will lower the costs of utilities for residents, reduce emissions, help create clean energy infrastructure jobs, add renewable energy to the city's utility distribution system, and create a sustainable revenue source for the sewer utility.
