Chelan County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol Vessel

Chelan County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol Vessel - Chelan County, WA - 401 Washington Street Level 1 Wenatchee WA 98801

Amount Requested: $741,085

The funding would be used for the purchase of a new marine patrol vessel to maintain year-round access for the boat-only communities of Lucerne, Holden Village, the Rio Tinto Holden Mine Site, Stehekin, nearby private residences, and surrounding state and federal campgrounds. This new vessel would ensure continued year-round transportation, emergency response, search and rescue operations, and medical evacuation capabilities for the upper Lake Chelan region, serving residents, visitors, and multiple state and federal agencies. The vessel would also play a key role in fire response, flood response, and other natural disaster incidents, which have impacted the region several times in recent years and require reliable marine access for emergency personnel and equipment.

The project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because the current vessel has been in continuous service for 24 years and is approaching the end of its operational life. The purchase of a new vessel would help prevent service disruptions, reduce long-term maintenance costs associated with aging equipment, and improve safety and operational reliability. Investing in this replacement ensures that public safety resources remain reliable and capable of serving the thousands of residents and visitors who rely on marine access to the upper Lake Chelan area each year.
