Bonney Lake Intersection Safety and Mobility Improvements

Bonney Lake Intersection Safety and Mobility Improvements – Bonney Lake, WA – 21719 96th St E, Buckley, WA 98321

Amount Requested: $2,000,000

The funding would be used for the construction of a roundabout at the Angeline Road and Veterans Memorial Drive intersection in Bonney Lake. This roundabout would improve mobility and traffic safety through the intersection while providing multimodal improvements for pedestrian safety. This project is an appropriate use of taxpayer funds because over the past five years, there have been 24 accidents at the intersection – 8 of which were classified as severe. Roundabouts have been shown to reduce both the rate and severity of traffic accidents. Additionally, Veterans Memorial Drive in Bonney Lake is classified as a T-3 freight corridor, carrying 3.7 million tons of freight each year. The corridor is expected to become a T-2 freight corridor soon as it is expected to carry 4 to 10 million tons of freight annually. A roundabout at this intersection would support freight mobility through the city, improve public safety, and increase pedestrian access and protection.
