OLYMPIA, Wash. — Homeownership has become increasingly out of reach for many families, and a new bill introduced in Congress aims to make buying - and keeping - a home affordable for future generations.

On Thursday, U.S. Rep. Kim Schrier, M.D., D-Wash., introduced the Permanent Housing Affordability Act, legislation intended to address the housing affordability crisis and increase access to homeownership. Companion legislation was introduced in the U.S. Senate by Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-Delaware.

Congresswoman Schrier was joined in introducing this bipartisan legislation by Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks, M.D. (IA-01). This bill will direct the Secretary of Commerce to conduct a study on the feasibility of manufacturing more critical infrastructure goods in the United States, with a focus on identifying rural communities best suited to support domestic production.

ISSAQUAH, WA – Organized retail crime has become increasingly prevalent across the United States, threatening local businesses and jobs, putting employees and customers at risk, and fueling transnational criminal organizations’ illicit activities, including human, drug, and weapons trafficking. To address this issue, Congresswoman Schrier has co-sponsored the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act, a bipartisan, bicameral bill that takes steps to crack down on organized retail crime.
